Pre-cast "tubs" were placed end to end and perform two functions: a base for the rail and a surface for highway vehicles to drive on. Each panel weighs 5,000 pounds and four workers helped guide each into position. (above) Once all the panels were placed, continuous lengths of rail were placed on either side of the "tub". Then the center panel sections were inserted securing the rails in place and providing a riding surface for highway vehicles. (right) The completed crossing is ready for the paving company. (below)
