School Train

New for 2005!  The School Train Program has been modified and improved.

The Northwest Railway Museum offers a School Train program in May of each year.  The School Train program is designed for students in grade four, but is adaptable to other age groups.  Each session is two hours long and is limited to 100 participants.  Reservations are required.

School Train 2005 will be held on the first three Friday’s in May:  May 6, May 13, and May 20.  There will be three sessions.  The first session starts at 9:30 a.m.  The second session begins at 11:00 a.m. and the last session starts at 12:30 p.m.  The 12:30 p.m. session is intended for Home School, Day Care and Preschool groups.

The School Train fee is $5 each per person.  A reservation with prepayment is required. One teacher per class will be admitted free and payment is required by April 22, 2005.   School Train is limited to 100 participants (student and adult).  To fill the session, your group may be combined with another group in the same session.

School Train participants should arrive at the Gazebo, across King Street from the Depot, 15 minutes before their session start time.  After all of the session attendees are together, they will be divided into three equal-sized sections.  With an estimated maximum of 100 total participants per session, this equates to about 33-34 people per group.

Tour of railway kitchen car

Each part of your group will begin with a different topic.  One group will begin with a cab tour of a real locomotive. Another group will tour the Snoqualmie Depot, and learn why railroads were so important to the development of the area, and the reason the depot was the focus of small-town life.   And the third group will learn about how signals and communications worked on the railroad in an era before telephones, radios and email.  The highlight of the program is an excursion aboard the Museum's interpretive railroad, where participants experience first-hand what it was like to travel by train in an era before Interstate highways and jet aircraft

School Train sessions are scheduled for 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and at 12:30 p.m.  The 12:30 p.m. session is intended for Day Care and Pre-school age groups, and Home School Groups.  There is not enough time for students to eat lunch during the School Train program.  However, between the gazebo and the big log are picnic tables you may use.

To make a reservation or for more information, please call visitor services daily between 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m or email .  Thank you for your interest.
