About

Volunteers perform nearly every task at the Northwest Railway Museum and all the necessary "training" is provided. Potential volunteers need only enthusiasm and some time!

Volunteer opportunities at the Northwest Railway Museum are as varied as our volunteers.  Santa Train®, Day Out With Thomas TM and School Train are fun community events.  The train crew program offers the experience of an operating railroad.  Become a Museum guide and share your interest in history or public speaking.  Help restore and rehabilitate the Museum's collection of artifacts; use existing skills or learn new ones. Are you looking for a workout? Why not join our Track Building Team?

Volunteers also have the opportunity to participate in social events including summer picnics and an annual banquet.  Join in the fun: people of all ages and skill levels are welcome.

Current Projects Include:

Restoration of Chapel Car 5: Messanger of Peace- Currently we need a volunteer to help restore the stove.

Rehabilitation of coach 218- Major components of this project, that will be worked on next, include continued restoration of the vestibles, finishing replacement of the roof, and installing windows. Future projects will include installation of flooring and interior siding, restoration of the ceiling paneling, and painting of the exterior siding.

The A end vestible is almost completely disassembled and installation of a new endsill on the A end will begin soon. We are currently working on getting the A end ready for the installation of the end sill and restoring or refabricating the pieces for the A end vestible area for installation once the endsill is in place. We should begin work on the roof this winter. We have the clerestory windows releaded and are working on the arched windows, if you would be interested in glazing the windows we would love your help. The end casting for the A end needs to be cleaned, if you would like to help this would be a good way. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator if you would like to help with any of these projects.

CRC Tools - help clean up the shop tools at the CRC (polish off rust, clean and lubricate).

Snoqualmie Depot and Train Beautification- There are several areas around the Snoqualmie Depot and several train engines at the depot that could use some cleaning. If you would be willing to power wash one day to help make our Museum more presentable, please let our Volunteer Coordinator know[see contact info at the bottom of this webpage]. Work will include demossing the bricks around the depot, and washing 2 or 3 of the engines.

CRC and Train Shed Beautification- Do you like gardening? Would you like to help maintain the plantings and landscapings around the CRC and Train Shed? There are many plants awaiting a new home in the soil and many weeds needing removal. Contact our Volunteer Coordinator if you would be interested in helping with this project.

Track building and MOW- Currently we are working on building Track 5 at our Train Shed and always have on going MOW projects. If you would like to help take care of the track, please contact us today.
